北京大生の声① In Beijing session, I was impressed by the depiction of different values in the Japanese society provided by the Japanese delegates. For example, Japanese people’s reflections on WW2 and the consequent alarm against too much governmental power were quite an interesting topic for me, because in relevant discussions here in China, given the polarized view-points, nationalism and my limited capacity to sift information, it has been difficult for me to learn how Japanese view that inclement period. Also, it is intriguing to see how the adherence to the concept ‘harmony’ influence social intercourses in the Japanese society, and how the traditional pursuit of ‘harmony’ coexists with the westernized individualistic political and economic structure. Another issue of interest is the systematic cares taken to help the underrepresented, including the disabled, the workers and those who were deprived of stable jobs and income by the pandemic.
北京大生の声② As a Malaysian, it’s pretty hard for me to observe things from a complete Chinese perspective, and sometimes hard for me to join the discussion-even though I’m actually “representing” China in this Jing Forum. However, I don’t think it’s an obstacle for me. It broadened my horizons and deepened my understanding of China and Japan. Not gonna lie, it’s really really really a fruitful experience and I really really really can’t wait till February!
